Minecraft

Minecraft is video game this article talks about.

Minecraft is a sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios. It was created by someone called  Markus “Notch” Persson and is written in the Java programming code. It has made 238,000,000 sales so far. It’s currently the most popular video game.

Gameplay:

In Minecraft, the only limit is your imagination. Players can build skyscrapers if they gather the materials and take the time to build one. The way you collect resources is just like real-life. You can find dirt on the floor in most biomes (not deserts, mesas, etc.)

Seems legit.

Anyway, Minecraft is basically like real-life survival. You spawn with nothing, and need to gather food to survive. You can collect resources to craft things like weapons, armor and can build houses, and before you know it, you’ve already made a modern city or a medieval castle or some other thing.

You can find biomes like beautiful oceans, icy tundras, blazing deserts, natural jungles and forests, tall mountains and much much more each containing its unique items to collect. For example, underground, in a desert, you’ll find diamonds more often than in other biomes. For mesas, gold is abundant. Most biomes contain their exclusive structure too, such as in deserts you can find desert temples which you need to dig the middle of the floor to uncover a secret trapped room. Stepping on the stone pressure plate will activate a TNT trap which will have you blown to bits before you can get your hands on that loot. To avoid this, just destroy the pressure plate.

Minecraft also has different dimensions. You spawn in the overworld, which is just like earth. With some time spent travelling, you can find biomes (mentioned earlier) such as jungles or deserts. You can mine underground and find minerals such as gold or diamond, which can be used to craft equipment. Second is the nether which you can make a portal to using obsidian and lighting it with a flint and steel. Once you enter, you see lava and fire everywhere. Deadly creatures lurk the area, waiting for a chance to kill you. Each of these mobs drop a unique item, for example the blaze drops the blaze rod which can be used to brew potions or to activate an end portal. They also have bastion remnants or nether fortresses, also containing important items. To get to the end, you must locate a stronghold and find the end portal. Then, you need to activate it by putting all the eyes of ender in.

There are also mobs, from sheep to zombies. Some mobs attack you by default, some will only attack under the right conditions, while some won’t attack at all.

Multiplayer:

As well as playing with the AI, you can play with other people too. You can join servers, which most of the time will be minigame servers. You see, because Minecraft has so many possibilities, people have build their own games in Minecraft! You can join your friend’s private world, which only him (and the people he wants there) can join.

Minecraft also has its own versions. Minecraft Java Edition was released first, on the 17th of May, 2009. Other versions, such as the Console and Pocket Editions were released later. They all have their own exclusive features, such as the way redstone works, movable tile entities, and more.

Minecraft’s music was composed by C418 and is incredibly unique, with many claiming that it is the greatest game music of all time. C418’s music is known to fit Minecraft, like other pieces of game music fitting their own games. In a medieval warfare game, you can expect epic music. Then, what does Minecraft’s music sound like? Some of the music represents how huge the world is and how many possibilities there are, and how the only limit is your imagination. Other pieces represent that like real life, Minecraft can be sad, like seeing your pet die saving you from a zombie or something. Some represent how lonely you are in that empty world, with no human activity other than yours. It contains all sorts of different types of music like that.

Minecraft has been updated frequently (and still is). A while back, it was a grassland, with a few caves lakes, rivers oceans and trees. Now, they have bosses and enchantments, biomes, cave types and even their own form of electricity. Many more updates are yet to be released. As of Mid-2021, Minecraft 1.17 has just arrived. Let’s see what they have next.

Player Types:

With unlimited possibilities comes the choice of what you want to specialize at. Some players decide to take on Minecraft’s form of electricity, the complicated redstone. Others decide to battle other players though Minecraft’s hard-to-master combat system. People interested in design take up building, and try the make the nicest houses possible. Others trade and make huge profits. Some just mine, hoping for diamonds. And some, well, just be bad at the game, making dirt huts.

Redstone is Minecraft’s form if electricity. It’s complicated. Don’t believe me? (to the redstoners just ignore this part) Redstone dust can travel 15 block either to X or Z, but not diagonally unless first connected to X or Z. After 15 blocks, the signal can either stop or be continued using the redstone repeater or activating a redstone torch continuer, which both ways will continue the signal for another 15 blocks. The signal can then activate a mechanism such as the piston or dispenser, provided that they too are not placed in diagonally to the dust, which should be powered and should not pass though any transparent blocks. You get the idea. PvP requires quick thinking, aim, a high clicks-per-second, etc.

Minecraft Servers:

The fact that there are unlimited possibilities means that players have made their own minigames in Minecraft. Some of these games include bedwars, which is a PvP style minigame where players spawn on their island and collect resources to buy resources and blocks to defend their bed and destroy others. Once your bed has been destroyed, you will no longer be able to respawn. Another game is Build Battle where players build and vote to see who has the best one. The best build wins. The biggest Minecraft server is Hypixel, which has been visited by 14 million unique players. Skyblock is a popular minigame where players spawn on an island, with limited resources. Players can farm and grind, slowly transforming their tiny island into a utopia.

Servers have been released on all editions, being survival to minigame servers.
